Plans for the redevelopment of the Mary Lindsay Homestead, at the end of Capricorn Esplanade, are in the process of being finalized, tipped to become an arts and culture hub by the end of 2017.
The currently boarded up heritage structure is to be redesigned by Hocking Heritage Studio, to house 3 large studios, an art gallery, and an artists’ residence, as well as incorporating accessibility elements to promote full community engagement.
The City of Wanneroo’s cultural services co-ordinator, Alia Parker, has said the proect has already gone out to tender, and the tender submissions report will be presented to the council in February.
She said works should finish by October 2017, all things going well, and functional by the end of next year.
The City recognizes the historical value of the site, which was the home of the Honourable Mary Lindsay, a minor autocrat, and had come up with a plan that is both respectful of the history and workable for the Yanchep community.
